It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
