Nearly 25,000 Experiencing Power in Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Weather Systems

Nearly twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the area, bringing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7 centimeters in particular locations. Weather authorities verified that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations received 598 calls for help across the region, primarily for property damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28k energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued storm activity expected across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
